THREE men have been charged with fraud offences after allegedly using false credit cards to buy more than $13,000 worth of goods at Illawarra shops this week.

Wollongong Police Inspector Brian Wyver said the men used false credit cards to buy six Sony PlayStation 3 consoles, 12 iPods and three GPS navigation systems with a combined value of $13,258.

"The men visited shops at Warrawong, Figtree and Wollongong and were arrested by security staff (in a large department store) in Crown St Mall," Insp Wyver said.

The alleged fraudulent purchases occurred on Tuesday.

A 35-year-old Yagoona man, a 40-year-old Frenchs Forest man and a man from Menai have been charged with fraudulently obtaining goods and will appear in Wollongong Local Court at a date to be confirmed.
