I grew up in Concord in the 1960s by the smelly, industrial stretches of the Parramatta River. My grandma would come from Homebush on the 461 bus and we'd meet her and travel into town perched up high on the double-decker as it crawled, charged and lurched down Parramatta Road to arrive at the glittering basin of Circular Quay.
